We all have our own path in life. Many think it is their's to control. Others think a higher power has a say in it. Some leave it entirely to fate, or wherever the wind takes them.
There are loads of philosophies regarding this realm of thinking. Do we really have free will? If we do, to what extent? If not, why not? As humans, we are always asking questions and seeking answers. I seek your answers-- so tell me your thoughts on all of this, though, my direct question for you is this: Do we have full control of our destiny? And where does fate come in to this equation?
Finally, I'm the first one to respond to something. But I see why this question is asked. My parents are always telling me I'm not in charge around the house when I tell my youngest brother to clean his room...several, several times. But I think if we're independent human beings, we do control our lives. It's like our life is an EXTREMELY long video game and our souls have the controllers.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I could be misleading. But as much as it seems my parents control me, the reality is that they don't. I may have outside INFLUENCES that shape my decisions, but ultimately it's going to be my choice on what decisions I make.
DeleteVery cool question. Reserving my thoughts for the end.
ReplyDeleteDaniel the lion says hi!
DeleteI wish I could tell you something in my own words, but all I really want to say is everything past philosopher Alan Watts said in one of his interviews. Below is the information to a video made on youtube with pictures that correlate with his words. Just listen to the way he describes everything, and tell me your thoughts. It directly relates to this, don't worry.
ReplyDeleteRemember: focus on the words, not what you see.

In my own words I guess I would say that your destiny is now. Your entire infinity and eternity is in every moment you simply exist.
DeleteI do, however, believe in Jesus Christ and that He has given us a hybrid, meaning a combination of free will and pre-destination in the sense that He is completely all-knowing of everything--and I mean everything. But He also allows us the opportunity to live and experience life in all of its completely chaotic beauty.
Many people choose to disregard the idea of religion entirely, but I find it beautiful. I was once watching the television show "The Middle", and the youngest child, Brick, kept questioning his optimistic sister during the entire episode about why she believed in Jesus Christ. In the end, they both stood in front of a window and looked out as they finally let it be. This is when Brick says to his sister when asked if he does believe, "I dunno. But it is a pretty cool story."
Religion is a touchy subject for everyone, but to me it's a beautiful concept that yields passion and desire from the apathetic to the church-dwellers.
In the end, your choices will always be right, and that's not according to any religion. There's so many different paths to take in life, let alone for one decision. Just make a choice and go with it. If your decision brings about a negative result, either physically or emotionally, then this would be when you would decide what choices in similar form to shy away from in the future, furthermore proving my point that any path is the right path because, like in this example, even lessons can be learned through the right path
^The first two lines of that cut DEEP. It's like that comment took a knife and like murdered my soul viciously, then raised it back to life, then killed it again, and finally revived me again. I'm not sure if it hurt or not.
DeleteNick you kill me. Harious. In the running for comment of the year! Keep it up.
DeleteFleurr
DeleteOkay I thought Nick's comment was funny but as I scrolled down and saw FLEURR I lost a lost all control. Mr. Torres, you are quite the person
Delete*lost all control
DeleteX'D As I type this I'm have trouble keeping my composure. Mr. T comments "Fleurr." I can't breathe! Someone call 411! I'm gonna need medical attention if I don't stop laughing. I'm having trouble breathing, my face is red, I'm in tears!
DeleteWait, what do I win if I get comment of the year? Anything? No? Okay.
DeleteI literally wrote an entire comment and it didn't post. Hmm. OKAY google. Be that way. Cambiando la tema, my original comment that you say murdered you countless times is still something I believe in. Why do we worry? Why are we fearful of what could have been? What could have been is not what is, so why? Every decision, every choice, and every path you take will always be right. You are always where you are meant to be because you are, at any given moment in time, the sum of your experiences. Many people's parade around the concept of the past not defining us, and in many aspects this its true, specifically focusing on the negative aspects. However, we ARE who we were and who we will be. Our future is our past. We will always be our past because it is our then, our now, and our will be. And this is what I believe
DeleteMany people* is** sorry for the typos ya'll
DeleteWow and I spelled "y'all" wrong okay I'm just done. *throws hands in air*
DeleteHa ha. That's kinda funny. *starts laughing.*
DeleteI like that answer. Cool way to look at it.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say we control our own fate; no one can really prove if one is correct or not cause that's a fruitless journey of "no you were destined to think that," but instead I ask you think of it like this, is it better to wait and see if destiny happens to you or to go make your own? Even if you are predestined for something then no matter what path you take you will end up there but sitting there waiting for it to happen you and there is no pre ordained destiny, then you've wasted your opertunity to make destiny your own.
ReplyDeleteI often think about the idea of fate/destiny. I still have not decided if I believe in either of them due to many things that have happened in my life that I either saw nothing good come of or could not understand the reasoning behind the event. If it is real, it is terrifying. Knowing that no matter what you do or where you go you already have a predetermined ending that you know nothing about. Kind of eerie if you really think about it.
ReplyDeleteI would like to think we have free will. I would like to think that we are in control of all our choices. Though we can't be sure of any philosophy until we meet our "fate" I wouldn't want to live in any realm where I am just a puppet. To say the universe predestined is to say that we have freedom we have to choice and that we are not responsible for out actions. That is a rather grim world in my opinion.
ReplyDelete*no freedom
DeleteYou keep saying "I would like to think." I am curious what you realistically believe because that phrase that you keep repeating sounds rather ideal. Tell me how you see the world right now!
DeleteWhat if you were born to do something?
DeleteI believe our actions play a large role in our destiny. However, the people around you can also make big impacts in your life that can change the way you go about things, altering your destiny.
ReplyDeleteI think that the choices we make do have a big impact on our destiny, but if we were born to something we will eventually do that thing.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the choices we make affect our lives and can change how we react to future events. Life or fate seems to fly over our heads and can "strike" at any moment, yet in the mean time we try to take control by making our own decisions. Fate can greatly impact us, but our choices do hold true power.
ReplyDeleteAll three of them just agreed with each other^^^
ReplyDeletelol mamber
