A Thousand Years

Okay, so I'm not sure if anyone will see this, but I figured I'd try starting up the best blog in the history of blogs again.
I've recently been obsesssed with the song "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri. I think her voice is absolutely beautiful and the lyrics are just perfect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8d9XF3qhowA This is a video on youtube with the song. It's from the movie twilight and if you haven't seen it SPOILER ALERT. Its just an awesome video so enjoy. It has the idea of loving someone forever basically, and I love that. So I want you to write about something or someone that you would love forever. Whether it's the perfect someone, your pet, money, or just pizza, the idea is it will be with you forever and the thought of losing it would kill you.

An Eternity of Dreams

A dream is a wish your heart makes,
cinderella was right.
My dreams and wishes
make their way to my head
and come out at dusk.
Some are forgotten,
while others simply fade;
but those don't matter,
because they were once upon a dream.
It's those that reaccure
that can fill your heart with joy.
To lose your dream
would destroy your meaning
and make you miserable.
Stick with it and go for it
with ALL that's inside of you.
dream forever,
and never let it go.

Capture

Emotions drive us as human beings. They make up our fabric, they give life to our writing, and they separate us from every other creature. They are worth time and attention.

Capture an emotion, but don't say what it is. Explore it. Create it. Grab at it like a butterfly with a net. Other writers can reply with additions to your emotional mural OR with guesses at what emotion you're actually capturing.

Let's get emotional...

Nothing to Regret

In life, we all make mistakes that affect us in some way or another. Sometimes these mistakes hurt us, but there are those times that they actually make you a better person, stronger, gives you a better outlook on life, etc. I've made a lot of mistakes, most of them resulting in trips to the emergency room. But I learned something from almost all of them; I learned that no matter how close I come to my breaking point, I will always keep trying, even if along the way, there's pain.

So what I want you guys to do is to comment about the result of a mistake that affected you, but in a positive way. You don't have to share the mistake if you don't want to, just the result.

Do some soul searching(:

Cannibalistic Poetry

Write a poem from the cannibalized lines of past posts.

Do not put your lines in quotes. We all know that these lines are not your own, but your own arrangement.

Do what you can to retain the integrity of the original line.

Look back and cannibalize for the sake of art.

Chomp…chomp…nnnommm…nnnommmm…nnnnnommmmmm

The Little Things

To me they matter most,
But they may overlook.
It's the perfect smile on her face
Or the song lyrics misunderstood.
It's the perfect Sunday, with the sun shining bright
Or the time spent with family on summer nights.
Now do you think of these things the same way I do?
What little things, put YOU in the groove

The Random Post of Perspectives

Hi guys, so for this blog post, I'm going to give you a few options. (I recently made myself a dream catcher, and lately I've been having a lot of strange and silly dreams. I suppose that is where all of this is coming from.)
You can write a poem, short story, lyrics, whatever you choose. This is just supposed to be a fun little experience of looking at things from a different perspective.
You only have to answer at least one of these prompts:

Prompt 1: For this one, you write in the perspective of a non-living object, such as an old child's bike sitting in the garage, or if you wish to expand on that, a house telephone being ignored by its house occupants. You could go through a quick life of this object or give it emotions.

Prompt 2: I know we have a few people in the class interested in dead things (I'm talking about The Walking Dead here) so for this prompt, try writing in the perspective of... Wait for it... Zombies! Or any other supernatural creature you desire. Just nothing too gory please.

Prompt 3: All of us I'm sure have had strange dreams throughout our life, being random and crazy and completely unrealistic, so for this prompt, all I'm asking of you guys is to recreate that dream, except in the perspective of something else. So for example, if you ever had a silly dream about a dancing, talking banana, maybe tell a scene from the perspective of a dancing, talking banana!

Remember, this is just to be a fun experience for letting some imaginative juices flow and for all of us to practice perspectives, so don't take anything seriously and just let your mind go!

Communal Story

Let's write a story together.

This will be a battle of speed and refreshing. Be the first to start it off, be the best to keep it going, and be the ultimate to pen the ending. Only serious additions are allowed.

Beauty in the Eyes of the Beholder

Beauty is different for everyone. There is natural beauty, beauty from within, and shallow beauty. Natural beauty is the one that no one ever really seems to notice because most human beings don't really take a second to look around. Haven't we all heard the saying "stop and smell the roses?" Well, we don't always do that do we? I know that there have been moments where I have been either too focused on myself or on others where I don't just stop and take a second to really take in all that natural beauty. Almost all of us can say this has happened to us before. We go on a vacation to a new place and we are to focused on our problems to really look out the window and see what it going on. Beauty is all around us and yet we still don't take a mere second to just see. Beauty can be anything. It could be that random person walking down the street walking his dog. It could be that snow covered bush outside of your house. It can be anything.
I know I am going to get a bunch of groans out of this one, but winter is even beautiful, especially after the first snowfall. However, it is March and we are still getting snow, and most are now sick and tired of it. How can we get tired of beauty when it is supposed to be timeless?

New You Resolution

I feel as if everyone has something they would like to change. Maybe about themselves, a situation, or someone else. I want everyone to think about that something or maybe more than one thing that you would like to change. It could be anything! Okay now here's the catch, I want you to write an eight word resolution. Only use EIGHT words, no more and no less!
Here's mine:
I wish to become even more like you.

A Whole New World!

One of my favorite things in any piece of fiction is getting to learn about the world of the story. Each world, whether it be an entire planet, a county, island, or even a small town, usually bring some really interesting lore and locations that the characters visit, and sometimes not even! It always enriches the experience for me, and just brings the story more to life.

Recently, I've come upon a really neat website that allows for random generation of worlds! The website is meant for fantasy worlds, but it'll still do for what I want for the blog post. Here is the link: http://donjon.bin.sh/fantasy/world/ Once you're on the website, go ahead and alter the settings for how you want the world to spawn. Once you're all done, hit the Construct button and give it a bit; these servers are a little slow. But once you have your world, here's where the objective of this post comes into play.

Once your world is generated, find a location on the map, whether it be a town or somewhere else entirely. What I ask of all of you is to create some lore / back-story of that location. Make it unique and something any reader could get hooked on to learn a little more about.

Examples: In the great Colbalt Sea, there once existed a island that inhabited the Great Mermaid, whose kisses granted eternal life, but at the cost loss of sanity for each year still alive.

Be creative, and have fun with your lore!

2nd Guest Writer: Mr. Maas

I've spent most of my life dealing with Mathematics. One of the things I enjoy about Math is that there is only ONE right answer. Unfortunately, life is not always black and white or right or wrong. There are a lot of grays or maybes. As we get older and more mature, part of our responsibilities are to distinguish good and bad, right and wrong and make the appropriate decisions. That can be a difficult task, but fortunately most of our students make good decisions.

Q & A Vault...

I love questions, but I often ask myself ones that I know not what to do with or how to answer. For anyone else like me that needs a place to store their questions, this thread will be an ongoing, safe place for you to store them. Feel free to attempt to answer others' questions, and if at anytime throughout the semester your find your own answer to a question you posed, you may post that you have found the answer, therefore rectifying that question.

Describe Your Sences

Have you ever thought about the scent or taste of something? Have you ever tried to describe it? I'm challenging you to describe something you taste, smell or hear. It can be the taste of bubble gum, or the scent of coffee! Pick anything and explain it to someone. But, there's a catch. You can't describe how something looks, we do that too much. So, think about your favorite food or sound of the day and describe its sound, taste or scent! Be creative!

Seasonal Residue...

Winter is the only season that leaves a significant byproduct: snow. Is it a legacy or a residue?

We shovel it, relocate it, only to have it melt. It is like a parasite. Is snow still beautiful?

How can snow give us this…

The Love Letter Project

The Love Letter Project does not call for a sappy, romantic, love note but an inspiration.

Consider the greatest challenge you've overcome in life and write a love letter to help a perfect stranger overcome that same challenge. I’m asking you to write a love letter because your personal story will make a powerful difference in the lives of others. You could write a love letter to anyone: an entrepreneur who is struggling with her first business, a man who has lost his job, or a child who is being bullied at school. Write a love letter about a challenge you faced, and you will touch hearts, lift spirits, and show the world that no one is alone.

If you enjoyed this post, consider sharing your letter HERE

I choose this project because there was a girl in one of my classes who had terrible terrible cuts on her wrist. I had told the teacher and what I saw and asked her name be given to the school psychologist.
Here is my letter to her. (You don't need a specific person, but I choose one.)

Dear, Stranger.

I'm terribly sorry for what has happened to you. I know it's lonely and life seems hard. I'm not going to tell you everything is going to be okay, or that all your problems will magically disappear. But I'm going to tell you it does get better, so much better. The cuts on your wrist will heal and so will the ones on your heart. This isn't a phase in your life, it's a milestone. Cutting is not a phase it's an addiction. Don't let anyone tell you that you need to grow up and stop. You're not childish, you are a strong young woman. I want you to know you can do anything you want in your life. I don't know your story, I'm sorry that you haven't been in class because I really want to befriend you. When you come back I'm going to make a point of introducing myself, we all need a friend. You will get though this, you will survive. I know your life is worth living. It's going to take a long time but I promise, I swear on every cat in the universe, you will be free from whatever is holding you back.

Love,
Jasmine.

One Chance, One Person, One Hour

Hey there CWII blogies!!!! My post is going to be short and somewhat simple, so here it is.....

Well, everyone (I would think) has role models. People look up to others who inspires them, people that are accomplished, actors, writers, or even family members. Now, with this in mind a lot of the times we can't talk to our role models, if they are famous, or deceased. So my questions for you. If you could talk with anyone in the world dead or alive, for one hour who would it be? What would you talk about? And why? This is a one time chance, pick wisely.
Good luck!
P.S. These people can not be fictional and they can not be from the future, as you don't know what the future holds. Also you can not use this experience to make yourself rich or famous.

Voices

You know that ringing sound that you'll perceive while in a dark quiet area? I've done some research and some people may say that that this is an auditory-illusion brought about the ears inability to detect frequencies below the human senses. That's completely wrong. That ringing sound covers up something else altogether. If you are quick, patient and maybe a little lucky, you will be able to hear past the ringing. What you'll hear are voices whispering to each other. They'll silence themselves quickly but with practice. You will become more adapt at catching and interpreting what they are saying. You will hear thing from the past, the present and the future. However, you must be aware, because there is no such thing as a voice without a body.

And when you start noticing them, they will start noticing you...

The Pain of Midnight

I enjoy my music like most of you. Every once in a while, I encounter a song that moves me in some sort of way. This was one of those songs. I have the song attached. I know it's tempting, but please do not watch the video at first. Just listen to the song and his voice and the evolution of his emotion. If you want to watch the video afterwards, then by all means do, it is a good one. But I want you to just listen and really hone in on what you FEEL as you listen. I have also provided the link to the lyrics in case you have a hard time understanding him. So listen!

Alright, so now that you've heard/seen it, I want to share my thoughts: this song seems to be about love and loss. It just breathes with his raw emotion, and I feel like anyone can relate. I know I went through a very nasty breakup last year and this song seems to really capture that emotional turmoil I felt (aside from the drinking part, I can assure you all I never have taken part in that activity before!!!) Also, I am a sucker for the violin parts as a violinist myself. But what I am getting at here is not necessarily this specific song but emotion, if you want to call it love, go ahead. My questions is, why do we, as humans, continue to put ourselves in situations where we know we will only feel pain? Why do we pour our souls into others when we know we will be heart broken? If you think about it, some of the world's masterpieces are results of pain: Beethoven and his symphonies, van Gogh and the Starry Night (there's a theory that the stars are painted the way they are because when you cry and then look at the sky, the stars are blurry...yea, that changes the way you look at the painting doesn't it?), and so many other artists. So that is my question: why do humans crave pain?

Life Tennis...

What is something that you want but don't need?
What is something that you need but don't want?

What is something that you don't want to believe in but do?
What is something that you want to believe in but don't?

What is something that you do but don't want to?
What is something that you don't do but want to?

What is something that you say but regret?
What is something that you regret you don't say?

What are you looking for that you haven't found?
What is something that you've found that you wish you were still looking for?

What do you want to be that you aren't?
What are you not that you want to be?

Worth a Thousand Words

Attached to this post is a series of five pictures. Choose one of the five, and write about it. You could do a quick description, a full blown short story, or even a poem. Try going off the board with a newspaper article, or even try writing with only dialogue and no narrator. Omit/add in details as needed.

Fear is Only What You Allow It to Be

Scared to Death

A young boy was locked in a closet. The lights were off and he couldn't see a thing. He was crying.

When the boy was only four his older brother played a nasty prank on him. He crawled under the bed and screamed. His brother told lies of a monster living under the bed. The boy started using a night light and had to sleep with the door completely open. The light annoyed him while he slept, and often times woke him up, but that was a sacrifice he was willing to make if it would keep the monster away. Only... it didn't.

What the boy was never told was that his brother has brain damage. So when he kept making up newer and newer versions of the monster story, the boy believed him. The monster started tiny and aggressive, but due to an active imagination it grew large, evil, and murderous. The boys fear grew more and more with each generation of monster. He started having nightmares and was comforted by the brother in middle of the night to go back to sleep. One day the boys brother got up early for school and went into his closet to pick out an outfit. The brother had a seizure and his brain died. He lay in the closet brain dead. When the boy woke up to find his big brother dead on the ground he shrieked in terror. The boy believed the monster had moved to the closet and attacked his dear brother. The boy slammed the door and ran to his parents. The family was a complete wreck. The boy was hysteric because he thought a monster was coming after him, and the parents because of their sons death.

That's when the night terrors began. Loud, shrieking every night came from the young boy. He was traumatized. He refused to enter the closet, he always slept with every light in his room on, and he never touched a single thing on his brothers bed. Fore he thought it was cursed. The parents thought the boy was just upset over the loss of his brother, but they were wrong. The young child was on the verge of insanity.
One night the boy woke screaming of the monster and was woken by his parents. He bawled into their arms of the monster that was after him and how they needed to move homes to a new state, and began crazy talk, like changing their names. The father asked,"Have you seen this monster?"
"no" the boy replied
"then how are you so sure its there?"
"cause it killed Ben. it started under the bed but Ben made it so angry that it moved to the closet n' killed em'.. its after me now."
The father said no comforting words as he held his son. He realized he needed to be taught a lesson. So the father picked his son up and carried him. He set the boy down with a pillow and a blanket on the closet floor, and immediately shut the door and locked it. The boy was now screaming at the top of his lungs, he was so loud, he could have looked death right in the eye. Half an hour of agony screaming ended and resulted in a low sob. He was waiting for an attack. An hour passed with nothing. Not a single noise or movement. He fell asleep there with red, throbbing eyes and a pounding heart.

The boy was most surprised when he woke up.

The Moral Newtonian Compass

We all make choise, but few of us think of how much of an impact they actually have.
Isaac Newton stated that every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

With both of these in mind, here is your burdening gift:

You have the power to stop the suffering and problems of others, no matter how big or small, nor how minor or major or how many people it effects.
If someone is sick, you can make them healthy. If someone is poor and homeless, you can give them money and a home. If someone is afflicted with a disease, you can cure them. Better yet, you can eliminate the whole disease. You can stop wars at the snap of your fingers. You even have the power to revive someone who has died.

But, with Isaac Newton as the maker of these rules, every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

That means if you make someone healthy, somone else gets sick. That homless man you gave a home and money to? Someone else loses everything. Cure a diseased person, someone else becomes afflicted. Cure the whole disease and a new one will take its place. Stop a war and a new one will begin somewhere else on the Earth. And if your parent or significant other dies, even the love of your life, and you bring them back to life, someone fitting that same role dies and takes their place.

These choices and their reactions are represented by Newton. Your morality and actions are the compass.

With this power at your fingertips, you are guided by this moral Newtonian compass alone. Which way will your compass point?

Mirror to Humanity

What is the most important question that a human being must answer?

(Bonus: does anyone recognize this question?)
