The People We Look Up To

Lately I've been spending a lot of time wondering what it is that I idolize about the people I aspire to be like. Once you go beyond things such as liking their style or their looks or their likes and dislikes, what is left of your favorite person that makes you want to be like them? If you stripped somebody of all that they had, and revealed the soul underneath, who would be the one that you still look up to, whose footsteps you want to follow? Why?

Bearing the Darkness (South AND Central)...

You're alone. You're in perpetual darkness. Darkness so deep you can feel its weight. "Leaping and wide." Exposed solitude. Between the roars of your whispered breaths, straining for peace, you hear music rush over you. Softly marching in the distance until it engulfs you, this song becomes your light, and with these notes, these words, you are no longer alone.

Many religions believe the process called reincarnation. Reincarnation is the religious or philosophical concept that the soul or spirit, after biological death, can begin a new life in a new body.

Through The Darkness In Her Eyes

Darkness danced around the narrow, rectangle alleyway. Large, square dumpsters stood on either side of the walls as the aroma of the garbage filled the air inside the small space. The moon winked beyond the walls of the buildings. Faint music could be heard from a dance club just a block away. A dark figure perched above the rectangular area. The figure gazed over the alleyway, blending into the darkness of the night sky. As four men walked into the abandoned alley, the figure stood. A grin painted itself upon the face of the mysterious person. Standing against the shadow of the night, the stranger flipped off the edge of the twenty-foot building, landing on the cemented ground in perfect condition. The four men ahead turned abruptly, looking down at the crouched stranger. The stranger stood with a grin drawn on her dark face. Her crystal blue eyes met the eyes of the men who were in fear of the mysterious girl. Her black jeans were ripped while a black, leather jacket with a tank top that was the shade of blood wrapped around her upper body along with black and white converse that protected her feet. A silvery, ringing voice bounced against the walls of the alley, “You’re scared.” The men looked at the girl, fear and anger struck their eyes as they heard those words slide off her blood painted lips.  A man in his mid forties with green eyes, light blond hair, and a muscular, tan body looked at the young girl. In a deep toned voice he said "what did you just say?" With a short chuckle, the girl spoke, "I said you're scared,  which you clearly are." Another man in his early forties stepped forward, steam blowing out of his ears, "how dare you say that. You have no right to say that to us! You're just a stupid, ten-year-old girl who doesn't know anything!" Her red lips creased as she looked down and crossed her arms over her chest. Her words were crisp as she spoke to the aged elders, trying to keep herself calm, "I have every right to say you are scared because all three of you reflect fear as you all stare at me. Its quite pathetic that you can't even tell the age of a girl who is clearly eighteen-years-old, and not ten." The three men became livid towards the youth as she stood, shielded by the intense power of her serene cerebrum.

Social Issues

Okay, this is actually quite similar to Rane's post, but I am choosing to make my post about social issues.

I'm on tumblr a lot and my best friend reblogs many text posts. videos, and web links about social issues like Ferguson, Je Suis Charlie, the battle about the true meaning of feminism, homophobia, etc. 

I have a short film that I'll put below that deals with homophobia (view with discretion).

Society

Some of the writings I have seen my classmates write are flaws in society, so for today's thread, complete this statement:

"I wish society paid more attention to______." And explain why you wish this.

Rebirth

Driving down this winding road,

The green of the trees blur together .

The faster I drive past,

The leaves change and whither .

The sky is clear from clouds,

A family of birds flying in a V .

Those beautiful marshmallows roll in,

Time to replace this old short sleeve .

I step out of my time machine,

I rest in the plush grass .

Pulling my wool's buttons together,

The snowy blades hurt my skin like glass .

The moon trades with the sun,

But this change is only temporary .

Those sweet leaves have gone,

The blanket of grass has worn away .

I put my car in reverse,

  Maybe what was once surrounded me,

Will be revived .

Master Pieces

Have you ever seen a masterpiece before, what you would constitute as a "masterpiece?" There is no universal definition because of its subjective nature; they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But when you look up crafted magnificence, you KNOW what you're beholding.

However, this is not a place to muse about past masterpieces. I want to have a conversation about what YIELDS masterpieces. So we will start with this question:

What piece must be mastered to make a masterpiece?

To elaborate, you all are artists! You have your artistic toolbox, and you've stood (I hope) in the ambience of aesthetic brilliance before. What PIECE of your artistic PUZZLE do you need to MASTER in order to create a MASTERPIECE?
