Button Poetry

for my blogpost I also want to talk about poetry. it is kind of similar to katelynn's post but for my blog post I want to focus on slam poetry, button poetry & youthspeaks on YouTube. I spend quite a lot of time there and I want to share them with other people. so I would like each of you to either:
1: copy/paste a link to your favorite video on button poetry, slam poetry, or youthspeaks and explain why you like it so much or why it speaks to you. or
2: if you have not seen many of these videos or wish to see more, watch one that you have never seen before, copy/paste the link, and explain the things you liked about the video, the message, the speaker, etc. you can do both options if you want to and are interested in this topic (rane) because I know how addicting these videos can get. you can also post more than one if you wish.
enjoy! namaste, falafel, & let's grind.

  1. I have sosososoosos many favorite button poetry's/slam poems. I love them. But my all time favorite would have to be:

This was (most likely) the first slam poem I ever watched and it's still my favorite. I (accidentally) memorized this poem, it's so powerful. He didn't need to raise his voice or scream, his words did it for him. And the end is just me playing the ham horn. it's great.
Of course, I have other favorites but yeah, this is my all time. :)

    (IT CONTAIN SOME STRONG LANGUAGE)

I am in love with this one. The way it talks about how the only skill woman have is their looks and nothing more. She talks about how we are basically objects in mens eyes while they make all of the decisions and do the 'hard work' and 'labor'. Girls shouldn't have to put up with this anymore. Girls aren't objects, we are living, breathing human beings who are capable of so much. When I heard her say all of this it really just painted a picture for me in my mind. Girls don't need to rely on looks or men to do what every single woman can do by herself.

    1. "I wonder what it says about me that I feel pretty in a dress, but powerful in a suit."
      - I love that line.

  3. Every poem I found displeased me. Note these are my opinions, listen or tune me out, whatever you choose. Every poem had something against who I am, poems about homosexuality, how dare I be straight? Poems about religion, all lead to Christians, Catholics, anyone under the name of God to be arrogant and rude (irony) and poems about gender, how being a "straight white dude" places anyone like this in a sub human category. Please if you found a poem that didn't shame a culture, lifestyle or anything in that matter please share it with me. No one should have to apologize for who they are, no one honestly will either.

  5. I love slam poetry and the one that I like the most isn't from the channels above (sorry) but it's called "Skinny" Aisha Oxley I love it so much because I can relate to it. It talks about how people tell her to "put meat on your bones" and how offensive it actually means. I just really love it

    What Lies Ahead

This is one of the many that I enjoy. This video specifically interests me because of the picture it paints in my head and the way she describes the movement of nature in comparison to her mind and body. And there's this one line that says,
"I've spent a lifetime being found but I'd really like to get lost."
After I heard this line it was feeling a switch in my vein and I questioned my life choices. It was very inspiring and its really the line that got me sold here. I really like how she honest she is when she says the line too. Its a conversational tone as if she was speaking to me, or to you. It had a very different effect when she delivered that way. Lastly, I really enjoy the title, "What Lies Ahead" because it's such a big world out there and she describes the moonlight, the sunlight, the ice, the warmth, the ocean, the earth, the clouds, the mountains, and her dreams everything that lies in front of her but also everything that lies in between. And all you really have in life is time and time will tell. That's how she ends it with the reference of time and I thought it was a perfect line to end it.

  7. My absolute favorite slam poem is 21 by Patrick Roche, which I think Reagan mentioned earlier, and Rane and I mentioned in the other favorite poem post. I just love the format of it, and how each time you watch it you can get something else out of it.

  8. My very favorite slam poem is also 21 by Patrick Roche. I love how each line has its own message or meaning and how every word brings something to the poem. I love how well it flows together and how powerful the piece is as a whole.

  9. One of my favorite poems that comes to mind right now is "OCD" by Neil Heilborn. What stands out to me about it is that you know it's come from a real experience, because his explanation of his love for the woman he speaks about is so intense and in detail.

  10. My favorite from button poetry is most definitely "Girl code 101" because the speaker (can't remember her name) puts so much thought into what she saying about the sexism that females get for their dress code. One of the last lines she says is something about her feeling pretty in a dress, and powerful in a suit, and that says a lot because I feel like a lot of girls just take the sexism for how they dress, (i.e. getting catcalled for wearing a shorter length skirt). I mean, it's always nice to get complimented but a catcall isn't truly a compliment. She goes so in depth with how different clothing on women makes them appear differently to others, and that says a lot.

My favorite button poetry is called potential. I really enjoyed this because it lets you know that it's ok to fail and that you HAVE to fail in order to succeed. And that success really isn't the end or the most important. It's about the journey to your success that really matters.

This speaks to me because it's such an incredible poem. There's so much raw emotion, and power held within this piece. It's made me cry countless times, and it's crazy to me to have someone's work effect me to the point of tears more than one time. You have to have some serious talent to be able to move people like that

    Neil Hilborn- "OCD"

I think this is one of the few Button Poetry that I have watched. I really like the concept of Button Poetry and I hope to find more out there that I find really good.
I liked how strong he is in this video and how he is repetitive and believable. It is a great poem and he makes his voice strong and I enjoyed the story.

  14. I've watched a lot of the ones mentioned on here as well as some others on my own, but my favorite has to be "21", because, oh my God, those words are so powerful. The ending left me with chills! The way he says those things about his father drinking, making everything blurry so that he could see him straight, I was stunned and amazed and awed and wowed. This is seriously my favorite button poetry I've heard thus far.

  15. I think I've posted my total favorite slam poetry piece (Unsolicited advice to adolescent girls with crooked teeth and pink hair), but I think I'm gonna talk about a different one for once--Dear Straight People. I really really love the tone of it. It starts out funny and semi-lighthearted, but it slowly goes on into really intense topics. Denice Frohman is just so real with the way she speaks, and I love everything about her poetry.

Thirteen is by far my favorite slam poem. It's recite from the bible is controversial to the topic but it is phenomenal nonetheless. The passion of this girl is contagious and by the end you feel the same fury as she
