As I was looking for a quote from my favorite author, Ellen Hopkins, for Brandon's post I came across this quote, “Have you ever once in your life reached out to touch infinity?” ― Ellen Hopkins, and I wanted to know what youthink it means?
I seriously love this. If I had to choose my most logical interpretation of this, I guess I would say that "touching infinity" would mean doing something so simple. For example, love. It's a universal concept and feeling, and when we remove all the noise in our lives and all of the distractions, we are left with the timeless ideas of life, and when we "reach" or "touch" these concepts, we have the opportunity to stay there "forever". This makes so much sense to me now but it is very late at night and by morning I will probably forget what I was even trying to relay here. Nevertheless, my main point is that infinity is floating around us in the smiles and laughter we see on each other's faces, the pain in each another's eyes, and the sorrow in a man's heart. It's timeless, really.
I read this quote over and over and it amazes me even more each time I read it. There's so many possibilities as to what it could mean. I think it means to take chances, to just reach out and take a risk- touching infinity. If we choose to live each day to the fullest as if life were to never end, we're touching infinity. We ache to feel infinite, but most of us are too afraid to feel that way. But the lucky few of us take the risk and reach out to touch infinity.
Reading this I was so lost by the meaning because infinity does not exist for us because of death. But in life I think there are moments were we feel infinite and feel like the good or even bad will never end. If we reach for this "infinity" however, will we be content? Or will we be dissatisfied with it?
I think there is a point in your life when you will learn how to touch infinity, and I believe that is by "conquering" the concept of life and death--focusing only on eternity.
When I read this quote, I feel she's asking if you had ever push your limits. If you ever push them to actually know them. Push the limits to break them, only to find greater limits. When she uses the word infinity, that means no end. So, then, if you put the idea of pushing the limits together with infinity, you find that you are limitless. In other words, the matter what you think, you have no limits in life. Your mind is your greatest limit in life. (Yes, you may quote me on that!)
I love this quote! I think it means to reach your absolute limit of pure bliss. Bliss is an idea that alnost everyone experiences at some point in their life. But to reach the highest amount of bliss is something that only very few reaches. It's a feeling that you never forget and strive to feel again
I think it means to have the courage to explore the unknown; to strive to be apart of a world that you yourself have no control over but to make that unknown, that place your home, to let life flow and let you float, infinity is unstoppable I think it means to surrender urself to that
I believe it means several things. Have you ever sought after something that you can't fully explain? Have you ever left yourself exposed to something bigger than yourself and felt better for doing so? Have you ever faced the adversity of forever and felt unafraid? Have you ever felt fearful of the unknown but had the courage to overcome it? Those are some of my thoughts.
This quote is very thought provoking! I feel like the author is taking about feeling infinite even though we know we have the obvious barrier of death. Reaching out to find this "infinite" moment is different for each individual. Some feel completely alive in contentment or moments of thrill (ie. roller coasters, skydiving, etc.). It takes a lot of courage for someone to reach out and find what this level of infinity is to them.
I keep thinking about Perks of Being a Wallflower. "And in this moment, I swear, we are infinite." It's that feeling of being completely alive, like when Torres slams his hand on his podium and we all jump. I'm not saying infinity is something as simple as that, but I think that the concept of feeling alive is the same.
In my opinion, reaching out to touch infinity, means risking everything. Infinity is impossible in my eyes, it is unattainable and reaching out to touch it is doing something knowing you are most likely going to fail but you will take the risk anyways. If you are mentally strong enough to "reach out to touch infinity" you have definitely accomplished something, in my eyes I do not believe that is an easy thing to do (doing something you know will most likely fail).

ReplyDeleteIt was never the unknown that shackled us. It was the unknown that liberated us.

ReplyDeleteLol I like this analogy

ReplyDeleteTo go for the gold. To never stop wishing or doubting yourself. Believing that everything is purposeful and there's always something more
