To me they matter most,
But they may overlook.
It's the perfect smile on her face
Or the song lyrics misunderstood.
It's the perfect Sunday, with the sun shining bright
Or the time spent with family on summer nights.
Now do you think of these things the same way I do?
What little things, put YOU in the groove
The perfect ratio of peanut butter to jelly
ReplyDeleteOr laying in the grass watching stars appear.
It's a long hike in the fall
and a bonfire with people you love.
It's watching someone's face as they open your gift,
and seeing a child dance without care.
The smell of home
and the safety of a blanket.
Melting ice cream
Icy hose fights
Burning lungs
Soothing waves
Late nights
Early mornings
An unequal balance:
The small things that mean so much.
I'm seriously in love with this poem and the majority of your writing.
DeleteIt's knowing that you made someone smile or laugh,
ReplyDeletehaving a kid wanting to be like you,
seeing others happy,
watching the sunset on the perfect night,
swimming under the stars at night,
seeing backyard full of flowers,
going hiking as leaves change colour.
the little things are what count in this beautiful world.
This sounds like a perfect summer/fall day!
DeleteWow that was beautiful *o*

ReplyDelete- seeing someone I haven't seen I a while
ReplyDelete- The perfect song to get me though the day
- A memory that reminds me of who I am
-Remembering the feeling of the wind through my hair
ReplyDelete-The lasting memories of my Great Grandpa's hugs
-The image i see staring back at me, reminding me i am not weak
How the words that meant so much to me in one way, change my views of everything because of how I felt in that moment. The lyrics meant so much more than they did before.
ReplyDeleteOr how screaming and laughing escaping the playground was a good thing, and that no one was really getting hurt. (Someone pushed my friend off the top of the slide and laughed).
I agree with what you said at the top how word can change their meaning when you feel a different way.
Delete-The sound of rain hitting the window
ReplyDelete-The chirp of the birds when I lay on the roof
-The gentle fingers of sunlight on my skin in the late afternoon
-The smell of pork chops and the sound of the neighbors coming over to enjoy
-The taste of hot chocolate while we play Minecraft
-The cool dew on the grass while we play hide and seek even though it is two in the morning
-The laughter echoing as we wade in the creek
These are the things I want to remember because they make me happy vuv

I think that the little things aren't always as little as we think they are at the time. That's why they mean so much later on. The "little" things are a lot of the times meaningful to use or some sort of accomplishment helps you along the way, so shouldn't they be the big things?
ReplyDeletecuddles with someone important to you
ReplyDeletelong walks and meaningless discussions
and your hand in mine while you hum the tune
to the commercial you just watched on tv
From cool tap water that comes from the sink,
ReplyDeleteTo her adorable , goal-driven wink
And the thump of the bass that gives pulse to the night
these are the little things that make it worth living life
Because I didn't love you
ReplyDeleteuntil I saw you laugh into your cereal
and when you order your food at Mcdonald's.
or when you pet your dog,
and the way you park your car.
I fell in love with
the way you take laundry out of the dryer
or when you’d do math on your fingers
sometimes way you walk down the stairs.
Even when you became the oxygen that filled my lungs
and I was merely the dust under your fingernails,
I never knew loved you…
until you started to talk in your sleep
because sometimes you’d say my name.
Did you take the second half from your poem on the other post?

DeleteThe perfect beat to a favorite song,
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day when you come.
Gazing at that blank ceiling,
Trying to remember all that has escaped your memory.
Oh I forgot about music! Now I have to go back and rewrite my poem :(
DeleteWhen you really need something to just improve your mood or when your day isn't going the way you planned, and then your favorite song comes on, just by pressing shuffle. I absolutely love that feeling.
ReplyDeleteIt may just be hours
ReplyDeleteBut to me, it feels like forever
And when every moment counts
I couldn't feel more blessed
To be able to spend it with you.
It may just be hours
ReplyDeleteBut to me, it feels like forever
And when every moment counts
I couldn't feel more blessed
To be able to spend it with you.
I like the way the stars look on a clear winter night
ReplyDeleteThe way my nieces eyes sparkle when I tuck her into bed at night
Saturday morning cartoons curled into my sisters bed
My mother telling me she loved me kissing my forehead
It's funny what little things you remember
When the living memories fade
My father calling me his baby girl
Mt mother saying my full name
But all that is over now the past is in the past
Mundanity will fade
But it's the little things that last
