Some of you have probably heard this song before; it was really popular in the early 2000's. Anyway, I have been listening to this for quite a while now, and I can't figure out what the singer means when he sings this song, or what "broken" means in this context.
I would like to see how everyone views this song, and what you think the song means. Is there any symbolism in the video/ words? What do you think the underlying message of this song is?

I think this song means that without that special someone, you're broken, and it's like you're not entirely pieced together unless that person is with you.
ReplyDeleteThese people probably lost somebody that they felt were a big part in their lives, and without them nothing is the same. They don't feel like themselves without that person.

ReplyDeleteI believe that it's about how when you first lose that person you feel broken but then as time goes on it gets better. The brokeness slowly but surely goes away.
ReplyDeleteThere's always this one person in life that you have that you can't be without because without that person, you're just hollow inside except for one ache that never goes away until you're in their presence again. I think that the song is about missing that person.
ReplyDeleteA final goodbye from someone is one of the most painful experiences. Depending on the relationship you had with that person, time may be able to help you get over it, but nothing is ever quite the same.

ReplyDeleteYou can be "broken" in so many ways these days, physically, mentally, emotionally, financially. I think the singer feels broken from something that has happened to him
ReplyDeleteI feel like the girl in the video with the angel wings had passed away and when the guy is singing he is talking about his pain and loss.When the girl is singing she is singing out of his pain. When they say "Broken" I think it means they are hurt aka broken because they lost someone.

ReplyDeleteFirst off, this is one of my favorite songs. Then the meaning of it to me at least. Stands with the lyrics. "I'm broken when I'm open and I don't feel like I'm strong enough. Cus I'm broken when I'm lonesome and I don't feel right when you're gone away". It reminds me of a strong relationship. That other person knows you on a different level than the general public. Yet suddenly they no longer are around to listen. Be it because of new friends, new situations and interests, or moving away. This song, to me, shows how we as humans like to depend on one person. We like to feel safe with one person. Which is why we don't go around with our deepest fears and sins on our sleeves. This song represents growth and life.

ReplyDeleteOh gosh I love this song! I think what he means by being broken isn't that he's depressed or anything, I think he means he needs somebody.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with all of this. I really felt like they were both broken and the only way that they would feel whole is with each other.
ReplyDeleteWithout the person you rely on most, it's next to impossible to feel like yourself again. Some people need others more than others do.
