I challenge you to go outside, right before the sun completely sets, and find a place to sit. Sit and listen to all of the noises you can. Relax and listen for 1 minute. 2 minutes. 3. Then report back on what you heard.
Okay I'm going to be honest here. I can't wake up before the sun comes up however, I did do this today since it was such a beutiful day and went into the woods to listen and it was so relaxing. My mind just wondered for the first time in a long time. I stayed there listening to the leaves move around, the animals running, and enjoying the nice fresh breeze.
I live on a lake, so I heard the ice make some noise as some geese walked up to it. The geese were making some noise, but not really. Their flapping wings were loud as they flied away. I also heard the slight wind rush past me. That was about it until the sun set.
This was hard for me but I managed to do it. This was so relaxing and amazing to watch. I felt as if I was able to hear myself think and it relieved a lot of stress. My hair swayed as the cool breeze blew past and the geese flew away as the neighbors let their dogs out. They were really loud but it was cool because there was so many. It was hard to do but I did it and I'm happy I did.
It was pretty quiet in my neighborhood for once. Except I could still hear the highway which didn't bother me. I have always enjoyed the sound of the highway.
Just listening to nature really allows you to step away from your own life for a little bit. All I heard was the rustling of some leaves still left on the ground and some kids laughing down the street.
I sat on my porch with my dog last night. Just as the sun dunked under the tree line the woods came alive; coyotes howled like they had taken over the sky in the sun's absence. In a few moments, they seemed to multiply, the howls whipping into a frenzy of barks and resonating through the air, the resounding song growing a life all its own. I wonder what poor creature they caught.
