Everyone day dreams from time to time. Some more than others, but it's obvious we all do it.
Why do you think that is?
Is it because we are always wanting something better? something different?
If yes, do you think that want for something else will ever be satisfied?
Actually, I don't really day dream. I more just Zone-Out. I'll just sit there and think about NOTHING.

Actress 3:
I'm always day dreaming.
What I mostly day dream about is either past events or possible future events. Basically, I'm always over-analyzing what I have said and what actions I have made in past events and dreaming of what could happen in the future based on my next course of action. It sounds a bit like a battle plan, so let me give you an example.
It has been made known to me for quite some time now that I am easily frustrated and flustered. At first I was like, okay, I get it. But now, after countless times, I feel like I want to give even more truth to these claims.
(to audience): personal rant: I don't think it's fair to tell someone that they are easily angered. Everyone has someone or something that easily angers or bothers them.
Anyway, I am usually analyzing what I've said and done in past situations that have caused people to tell me this, and then I make judgements and plan what I will do to try to fix this.
And of course, I daydream about cute boys and what my future job will be and what kind of dog I might adopt in years to come. All these things I think about, (pause) cry about, (pause) and dream about. It's just the way it goes.
(in serious tone): We're always dreaming. Even when we are living out someone else's dream, we are still dreaming of something more.
I know I will always be wanting something, whether it be tangible like a new car or just a new attitude/perspective on life, like maybe not being so "frustrated" all the time. One of these two things, materialistic or non-materialistic, will be always unobtainable for you on a complete level. It's up to you to decide which one you wish to pursue.
End scene.
If you didn't catch on, this is my version of a "script" and my way of saying that I am fully aware of how dramatic I am when I speak, act, and write; therefore, I am a frustrated, dramatic person so...don't mess with me. I might explode
DeleteI think that we will always want something better. That feeling is never going to go away. Once/if we get that something or someone they forget about it and move on to something else that they want. It's almost human nature to long for what we can't or don't have. It's rare that anyone will ever be completely satisfied with their lives and what they have. We think that we deserve better, the best, and nothing's ever enough.
ReplyDeleteI think it's so sad that it's become "human nature" and "the norm" to never be satisfied with the way that our lives are
DeleteI agree and I think it's really sad and unfortunate, but I think that it's become inevitable
DeleteI agree with both Danielle and Jillian in this instance. Danielle makes a solid point in saying that is in human nature to want what we can't have, but it was also true to say that it's sad to not be happy with what we have.
DeleteI completely agree, usually when I day dream its about these crazy events that I am someone I am not doing crazy things that aren't really possible. I usually think of it as "this world isn't what I want it to be" and I think that is sad
DeleteI think that we all get bored of our everyday lives. From time to time, we need to escape reality for a few minutes and bring ourselves to a place in our minds that lets us escape. I think that day dreaming is good for writers especially, because it lets us use our creativity to cease boredom and gives us the opportunity to conjure new ideas for poems, or stories, ect.
ReplyDeleteI do that all the time when I have nothing else to do. I usually like to think about what I could be writing about if I had a pen and paper handy, but when I do, I sadly forget most of it.
Deleteits either like touching your phone to make sure its screen doesnt lock or throwing logs into a fire for me its one or the other
DeleteI like how you have a different perspective on daydreaming than what a lot of other people had
Deletethis is a really good way of describing day dreaming nice job thank you
DeleteI have to admit that I enjoy thinking about things that I enjoy or hope would change and image my life with the differences. I enjoy thinking about some possible things that could change and some things that would just stay in my head. I know that if I really want something, and it could happen, but it happens, then I am in search for something even better. I know that some things you don't get and it may be for the better.

ReplyDeleteI guess we day dream because its as close as we can get to it. Its like a second reality we create that we cant technically see but imagine, and since we never day dream about how we get there or get that thing we desire our day dreams remain only figments of our imagination. So why dont we do those things to get what we desire, that is if you know what to do?
ReplyDeleteI daydream a lot when I'm bored or when I'm trapped in my thoughts. I stare at nothing and just think about whatever's on my mind. It doesn't have to be anything specific, especially not a dream per se. And, as for us wanting something more, I guess so. I don't think anyone is ever really satisfied with what they have.
ReplyDeletehumans always want what they can't have. I think we daydream about it because that's the closest we can get to having those things. &I I don't think that will ever go away, I think everyone will always have that longing for something else that thy desire.
ReplyDeleteI think we daydream due to the constant running on our brains. Just because we don't think 24/7 does not mean that our brain isn't working. The mind is always working, and it does not stop even if we tell it to. I believe it takes things that we desire profusely and imagine them. Maybe it's what it does as a pass-time.
ReplyDeleteI think day dreaming isn't really something we can control. I mean when it happens many of us don't even realize it. Sometimes someone has to help you return to reality. Day dreaming is a a second reality. A place in which only you can see, and people you create because that reality may be the only thing that keeps you going. The only sense of hope, motivation, or happiness you can come near to grasping. Day dreaming is a therapy for most people.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the way you described daydreaming, and I completely agree. It's kind of sad to say but sometimes escaping reality is the only thing that keeps people going
DeleteYes I agree. Daydreaming is a state of mind we cannot control. It's almost like an involuntarily action
ReplyDeleteI feel like day dreaming stems from the source of not being satisfied with the situation we're in or life in general. I don't think you would day dream if you were satisfied.
ReplyDeletecan we ever be satisfied?
DeleteI feel like everyone wants to dream of something better or more exciting. Personally I day dream the most when I am bored or there just isn't much going on. I just think it's to give us something to pick us up.
ReplyDeleteI actually randomly day dream often. It's really weird because I never notice until someone snaps me out of it.
ReplyDeleteOkay this is a second comment completely aside from my previous rant (which I am leaving up). Daydreaming is exercising the imagination, which makes for a more creative person. It's healthy to daydream, but we must learn to control it, i.e. during work or when driving.
ReplyDeleteWhen we daydream, we do just that: dream during the day. There's speculation on here about "human satisfaction", but I think it's important to know that you are in charge of your own satisfaction and no one else. If someone pees in your cheerios, the way you respond or react to that is all your own doing.
That being said, if you think people are never and will never be satisfied with what they have and therefore daydream, you are wrong. Unsatisfied people aren't always unsatisfied, just maybe in that moment. When have you always been what you were in a moment's mercy?
We daydream because we are human beings that are exercising our imagination for reasons completely subjective to each individual, and trying to group daydreamers is, in my opinion, a waste of time. "But they're all unsatisfied!" How can you prove this? Maybe you do this, but some people daydream about dragons and unicorns because they simply enjoy the thought of these creatures.
It is like walking up to another and saying, "you, sir! Why do you blink?" We do it because we want to or else life might be painful, blinking and daydreaming. Life would most definitely be painful if we never day dreamed. It is true that a lot can be said about what a person day dreams, but we all do it, and I think that's the only real truth we should be discussing here: not why do we day dream or what it means, but what can be said about what we personally day dream?
And that's all I've got to say about that
I always loved to day dream. I always think of these new scenarios and how they will play out and I don't know why, but it is fun. After playing video games all my life I usually think of fantasy worlds or something stupid and crazy and that's because I feel like there are limits to our world. I always wish for something new or different and it is sad. I want a different world so I have to dream up a new one
ReplyDeleteMaybe we day dream different lifestyles and scenarios because its purely fun. Curiosity and nothing more :-)
