A Whole New World!

One of my favorite things in any piece of fiction is getting to learn about the world of the story. Each world, whether it be an entire planet, a county, island, or even a small town, usually bring some really interesting lore and locations that the characters visit, and sometimes not even! It always enriches the experience for me, and just brings the story more to life.

Recently, I've come upon a really neat website that allows for random generation of worlds! The website is meant for fantasy worlds, but it'll still do for what I want for the blog post. Here is the link: http://donjon.bin.sh/fantasy/world/ Once you're on the website, go ahead and alter the settings for how you want the world to spawn. Once you're all done, hit the Construct button and give it a bit; these servers are a little slow. But once you have your world, here's where the objective of this post comes into play.

Once your world is generated, find a location on the map, whether it be a town or somewhere else entirely. What I ask of all of you is to create some lore / back-story of that location. Make it unique and something any reader could get hooked on to learn a little more about.

Examples: In the great Colbalt Sea, there once existed a island that inhabited the Great Mermaid, whose kisses granted eternal life, but at the cost loss of sanity for each year still alive.

Be creative, and have fun with your lore!

  1. The Stonghold of Eternal Night soon was taken over by a vast army of angry lemons. Soon, Queen Estella would sit upon the stronghold's chair and gaze out onto her new prize. She had finally won over her evil sister, but the war had just begun.

  3. Just as I posted my comment, it started working again. I really don't know where I was going with this story.
There was a whisper upon the Sea of Anas as the birds swooped low and let their feathers brush the foamy brine. With them, the Crow Prince fluttered, preparing for the flock's next siege. As the group of birds fluttered over a bustling village, the corners of his beak turned upward in a sour grin.
The townspeople would never stand a chance.

  4. The Forest of Ruins was always a dangerous place. Deadly creatures darted between the wood of the trees and the fallen and decaying buildings of a place once called 'Chicago' jutted out of the ground at sharp angles. But, now that humanity was on its last legs as it once again tried to claw its way to dominance, the Forest of Ruins was the only place to go to hide from... them.

  5. Off in the Jungle of Jade lives a hermit, isolated from Lennox. Everyone who enters the jungle is spoken to by the hermit, but those who enter never return. Adventurers seek out the hermit and others go to find fortune. For in the jungle is filled with jade, but if you touch one little stone, you may drop dead. The Jungle of Jade is not a place to go on a whim, you must take serious precaution and watch out for the hermit because he is definitely watching you.

  6. Surrounded by the Sea of Shadows, the small volcanic island of Ellon sent shivers through the spines of sailors. Fore back in the day, as these sailors would say, a mysterious monster took refuge here, and plagues those who land on the island with a painful death by fire.

  7. On the Temple of Elemental Evil, surrounded by water, we watched and waited for a boat or ship to pass by, hoping one of them will stop and save us. The Tamba Jungle seemed so far away, but we finally decided to swim there, in hopes of human life.

  9. The popper gangers bounded their way to the castle ready to attack. they had their swords in their back pouch, and pulled them out only when they needed to kill a soldier. The humans that ruled the castles were cruel and murderous. No creatures of the forest were allowed in, and were left to strive for their lives to survive. Eventually the Popper Gangers reached the gates as the archers shined down on them. The castle was enclosed in a circular wall, to keep the forest out and civillians in. No harm was to come of the humans, they were the alpha race. No creature was better than them. But the Popper Gangers wanted to prove they were not weak. Their attack led to their slaughter against the wall. they were unable to get in. The bravery of the Popper Gangers though sparked hope into the forest and a riot began. A week later the trolls, Brenks, and linchers all attacked. They overpowered the humans and climbed the wall. They were into the city and strong. They attacked until they abandoned the kingdom and fled into the forest. They survived, but off on another land. Never to return to Deplon. It was ruled by the forest now, and the first thing they did to avenge the Popper Gangers, was demolish the wall that had them locked out in the dangerous world.

  10. The chalice of youth lies in the mirky bottom of of the swamp of sorrows, if your can reach it, immortality is yours, but touch a single drop of the water and burn your soul away in misery, sadness and pain forever.

  11. I felt a cold breeze as I walked through the woods that night. The moon lit the night sky for me. I could hear small animals running around near my feet. I walked faster avoiding all of the trees that made contact with my path. I wanted out of this dark, enclosed hell, but there was no route in this forest for that.

  12. Austin, I just want to say that your idea is amazing. I will be using this website for some of my writings.
A thousand years ago the sea of sorcery was a normal sea, except for its vast amount of fish. For this reason it was the work place of many fisherman. One year a warlock came to the city of Kasa which sat on the bay of the sea. The warlock went to the dock in search for transportation. However, in this time all magic was shunned, so although he was a good man he was refused any help by the sailors.
The warlock swore he'd get revenge, and then left the city.
Later that year he returned with a large group of warlocks. While everyone was sleeping the went to the docks and joins hands in a circle. All thirty of them then began to chant a curse. They were gone before anyone could notice they had even come.
Now to this day anyone to have entered the sea never returned. There are rumors of sea surpants that crush any ships and island that harbor mighty dragons. The only question is which will get to you first?

  13. The barren ice land of Falorest is almost abandon. everyone has fled to the narrow river except for a young boy and his small dog. No one talked about what happened to the mysterious land and the people who didn't know were to afraid to ask. It's said that the little boy with black hair and dark eyes started the uprising.

  14. "Roby, I have a quest of asking."
    "A quest."
"Though you are of twelve moons, you must have realized the days i have stored up on this Earth have been pillaged, days i believed owed back to me."
    "Lord, I know."
"Now, boy, keep this, what I will give you."
"Oh, Master, please, allow your servant boy to retrieve it. to this is what you were speaking at?"
"Yes. boy, keep this. just keep, these skeletons and passkeys. Don't lose those rings boy!"
"Hold them against my heart, like this?"
"Yes, hold them, ye..es hold them."
"Master, your breathing! You must, keep breathing! please, Master, don't fall asleep. stay awake! Look here, where I'm dangling the skeletons! look, up...here."

"Boy, you common boy, lift off my father's corpse! don't you run out of these castles walls.... Guard, yes you! follow his steps, stay on that heathen's trail!"

He heaved, how this boy's chest heaved. and galloped up the dilapidated steps to his new keep. for fear the guard stayed on his trail, the boy traveled to the ruins east of his former master's livelihood. away from his son's wrath that had come to collect his dues and suffer onward. he took refuge in the structure. under chipped stone windowsills, grimy floors, termite-eaten doors and draperies riddled with vermin. and he resided. Repairing replacing the things within his Keep. for twelve moons after that.

A Lord now himself, respecting the lower class of citizen's within his keep, he closed the intricate carved wooden and golden emblem box that housed his skeletons and passkeys. Never to forget the rings.

  15. A misfit island of lost belongings belittled in a whirlwind of powdered sugar and mischief. Our trapped memories lie in the frozen over laid ground. Someone craving to be the belonged dream a child once understood. How odd, but how real. This fantasy of bitter burdens scattered about in poison berries. This island grows, and blooms with salted taffy, it mangles the ordiment of a hallow evening when dust burgeons the island with mist of acidic touch. Such an odd human collection of a misfit belonging.

  16. A mysteries island of flowers and jungles. Behind a mountain of lost things and the rivers of dreams. I would go to get away and soon be found by the creature in the night. My memories all there, he know all of them. As it grows lighter he gets smaller. Then he is gone and the island goes with it. To the bottom of the ocean you will find it and all its glory will still be there. That island will come back up when you dream real hard and you will see the beauty and the creature that lies there.
