*Speechless* I Can't Begin To Fully Tell You How Much Emotion Is Behind This Song. I Sat At My Desktop At 4 In The Morning & Balled Like My Mother Watching "The Wedding Date". The Lyrics Are So Unbelievable Touching. Just Take A Moment To Breathe In & Out Through Another Creature. We Get So Caught Up In Our Own Lives..Our Own Drama..Our Own Problems...& Our Exaggeration's...That WE Fail To Realize That People Have It Way Worse Than Us. What If I Had Your Heart? To Think That I Could Have Anothers Ones Heart & Feel Exactly How They Feel & Every Once Of Their Emotion...Its Completely Priceless. I Would Love To Endure Anothers Pain...Maybe Than Id Understand. Id Be Able To Comprehend.
I Wish I Could Go Inside Each & Everyone Of Your Minds & Understand Your Comprehension. I Don't Even Know Where To Begin With This Song. Bare With Me...I Promise That Everything I Say & Do Has A Purpose. I Believe That We Live In A Selfish World. Revolving Completely On Ourselves. Every One Is A Little Bit Selfish No Matter What They Say. Whether Its Your Attitude...Personality...Or Actions. I Despise & Regret Everything That I Have Done To Not Help Another Being. I Guess We Never Know How Much We Count On Each Other Until We Here Words Like 'Busy".. What Do We Do Then..? Headphones In World Out. We Shut Our Doors..Close Our Eyes....& Shut The World Out. Its Truly The Only Thing That Always Knows What Were Going Through...A Broken Heart? A Caged Life? Secret Identity? They Say The Words We Keep In. Music Speaks To Each & Everyone One Of Us No Matter If That Happens To Be Pop...R & B...Rap....Instrumental. It All Speaks...Some Just In Other Languages...

What If I Had Your Heart...? What If I Wore Your Scars...? What If You Told My Lies...? What If I Cried With Your Eyes...?

How Would We Break Down.
What If You Were Me; What If I Were You

  1. wow...this song was absolutely beautiful. If people were able to see first hand what all your troubles were then we would never have to worry about anybody not understanding you ever. If I could literally witness first hand what the world was life for anyone else other than me then I'd be fascinated. Only then would I truly be able to understand what pain they have been through. only then would I be able to comfort them properly and make them go back to their happy state. If I were able to do this, even for a second, I would in a heartbeat. It would be seeing the same would I have always seen...but from a whole different perspective.

    1. No two people see, or experience the world the same way. So how would it be the same? Physically you would still be on this earth, but other than that nothing would be the same.

  2. When I finished listening to that song I was at a loss for words. It was truly amazing. I agree that if we could live someone else's life and experience what they go through then we would truly understand them and what they are going through. However, I could see some reasons people wouldn't want to truly understand someone. To be honest, I think people are just scared to know what others actually go through, scared that it could happen to them or just scared to know the struggles other go through. But most of all I think people are scared to know that they are not the only ones who struggle, that they have it way easier then most people. Even the people that have lost family members of friends, at least they still have people in their lives. There are people out there who have no family, yet all we think about is our problems an how to get rid of them. What if the first step in getting rid of our problems is helping others with their problems?

That was an amazing post Amara.

  3. I really liked that song. It really showed how people feel for others and that if we could feel what others feel then we would turly understand what others feel and that we coukld help if we understood what they felt.

    1. I agree. "Walking in someone else's shoes" just seems unsanitary. I don't need athlete's foot. Sure, their shoes have been places but so have their eyes, and heart, as the song says. The eyes and the heart tend to remember more emotional things while your shoes tend to remember the now black piece of gum and suctioned cupped dog poo. Anybody have a better phrase than walking in someone else's shoes?

  4. To bare the thought of having another's mind as your own is powerful. Being able to live in another "world". In reality no one has their own world, just an earth that you have only a small part of. I agree our world is nothing but selfish, being so caught up in what we want and what we need that we fail to realize that other's have it way worse than we could even imagine. Opening up a doorway to another life or re-entering a doorway that has already been shut?

  5. Are we supposed to analyze the lyrics? I guess I'll just do that.
The lines, "What if I told your lies? What if you cried with my eyes?" and "What if I had your heart?
What if you wore my scars? " Speak of empathy AKA walking in another person's shoes. Many fail to understand where a person is coming from when they act the way they do. They do not know of the problems the other may be dealing with, their home situation, etc.
Next time you feel like judging someone, walk in their shoes for a second. You might be surprised where they take you.

  6. I absolutely loved this song, it was so adorable! It makes me think twice about taking things for granted. This song is mostly about thinking about others and their perspective on life. People have different ways with dealing with others feelings. I really just don't know what else to say but I cried listening to this and I just loved it!

  7. I think this song shows that we don't know what everyone is going through. This is why we need to be loving to everyone that comes our way. Everyone experiences different things in life and as humans its our job to comfort one another throughout this journey. I agree with Kevin when he said "What if the first step in getting rid of our problems is helping others with theirs?" This is so true. There's a reason we all go through struggles, its to learn and I think that when you help someone through a situation they are in that there is nothing more rewarding than that. Then in the end you helped someone out and you feel good about it.

  8. This song reminded me of one of my teachers that said something that really stuck to me. This was a teacher that was never late to class and it was 10 minutes after the bell when he walked in the door. Of course we were all wondering why in the world he was so late. He then went on to explain that the copy machine was terribly jammed. He had to fix it before he could make his copies. And what upset him the most was that the person who had jammed the machine just left it as is. Now in order to use the copy machine one must scan their teacher id. And my teacher could clearly see who had used the copier last. But he did not go confront them, or write a nasty email. He simply reminded himself, and told us--"they are probably having a worse day than me" Ever since that day, I have never had a bad day because if you remind yourself that you could never truly know and understand someone else's pain, you should never parade your misery on others. Its so important to be mindful of others. I'm glad amara chose this song. :)

  9. This is probably the 100th time I have heard this song and just listening to the lyrics causes chills to run down my spine. It's easy to imagine a life as someone else, but what we don't really know everything about that person. We can't really truly know that until we take a walk in their shoes. As a kid I always wondered what if I was someone else? What if I didn't play softball? What if these weren't my friends? What if this wasn't my family? I can honestly say that I like where I am at right now, if any of these were actually true, I don't know how I would feel. This song has made me really think about things and if they were different. It tells me that I am happy where I am going and I'm not going to dwell on the past anymore. There may be some things that I would change, but these things make me stronger. I'm really glad you chose this song, Amara.

    1. Glad you're content, Hanna. So few people are. Doesn't mean they're selfish. Just haven't realized the one thing that couldn't be explained. Makes me wish I had a hidden treasure map. Peace marks the spot. And you need a smile to uncover it. And a enlightened mind to crack the code and plunder the valuables.

    1. Could you specify the emotions? Sorry if it's difficult to pick just one (I'm indecisive too) just want to know. Most of the day, I can't talk, at a loss for words that aren't real, or aren't created as of then. Same goes for emotions. I take that back, I can talk for decades. Maybe... yeah, i flail my arms and morph my face into different expressions until I find the right one. Wow, i sound part monkey... or part baby seal... or part human.

  11. Okay, so I cried a bit. I am in love with this song, It has really made me think about how we all live. I'm sure all of us can say we have been selfish in our lives, no matter who we are. It's incredible how much music can change people and this song does it for me. You never know what someone else is going through, very rarely do you know their whole story. I was speechless, this song choice was perfect. I wouldn't be surprised if this song changed a lot of us, it's defiantly made me ore aware of other peoples feelings and even lives.

  12. First off, amazing! I was absolutely speechless when I first heard the song and read this post. Quite a contrast in retrospective. I'll begin with the thought that I don't think a rush of so many confusing and intermixing emotions combining. This song and topic has lead me far away from an answer I would give but into a mindset of multiple ideas and plots for both stories and poems and I sit here trying to contain them all. Thank you.

  13. I love this. It made me stop and think about everything. Made me think that people around the world don't have the privileges that we do. Maybe if we all opened up our hearts and gave just a little love the world would be a better place to live. Just image walking a mile is another persons shoes...but you couldn't do it, but it's okay...neither could I.

  14. This was a good song; however, I'm not always the most sentimental person, and I did not feel as moved or the need to cry. Maybe that makes me a horrible person...but that's a different story. This song was touching, but it was a bit cliche (to me, this is simply my opinion). Maybe it's cliche because this is the kind of house hold I grew up in. With parents like mine and religion comes a different perspective on the world. I was always taught to view someone as more than their words and actions. To view them as someone like me who has a family who loves them, and friends they open up to, and a pillow they cry on, and a whole life of their own who I just happened to walk into and only view a part of. We all judge other people because we are human. Essentially, this song is saying "try your best not to judge others, and to love them like you love yourself". This is timeless, and I believe people need to begin to forgive more and hate less. I was always told: view people throughout God's eyes; he created the person you hate, but if he can love them, so can you.

    1. I didn't feel the need to cry. And I must be the most sensitive person I know. Only when it involves my family does it feel like a thorn to the side.

  15. I didn't really like the song, to be honest. I appreciate the meaning and what its trying to get across, but I just don't particularly like how they're trying to do so. The message did remind me of Hear Me by Imagine Dragons though, and I absolutely LOVE that song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Yr683VLxes They aren't really about the same theme. but I do think that they touch some of the same points.

    1. I so much didn't like song as much as I liked the video. After listening to the song I re watched the video and put the music on mute. The video actually made me cry more than the lyrics. You see the sacrifice, pain, and memories, but most of all you see another life. A life that the creature saved. The creature knew that by letting his life go, another would be saved. Not for long the creature would disappear over time. The child grows, and discovers a world, not through eyes, but through a heart. One not intentially his. The what if's are always answered, they maybe answered while your breathing, or long after your gone. The messaged represented was not that letting you live a life through another perspective, but through another feeling. A feeling of being someone that would of never existed unless someone decided another's life was worth watching. My favorite part was the end. Everything was quiet sad, death, tragedy, and even answered questions. Even though everything had to end the boy decided a new beginning. He let a life live by letting one go. The balloons were so bright, drifting away a body empty of a heart, but sometimes a heart doesn't matter at all. Sometimes compassion, sacrifice, and even love is so much stronger. This spoke to me very in depth. Even your message made me take a look on my decisions. Sometimes something just as little as a song wants to make you a better person. My balloons will be waiting for me someday, but will they be colorful and carry me away, or black and white and drift into nowhere? I may never know, but I do know that I'm the only one who can decide.

  16. I'm going to have to give the biggest applause to the people that made this. Now that was music; that was one piece of music that really captured the beauty of sound that humans can make. Now a days, too many songs sound so similar one enough, whether it be in lyrics, baseline, etc, leaving people feeling if the infinite spring of music is actually drying up and will soon leave us with nothing left but unoriginal uninspired pieces. But this restores much of my faith in what music can do and what is really is. Everything about the song is so well done and I can really feel the passion that these people put into every aspect. I also very much enjoyed the music video. Both had such a good message, if not a more saddening one in the case of the video. I must thank both the artist for the wonderful song and to Amara to showing our class this excellent piece.

  17. This song is very beautiful and has ALOT of meaning behind it. Nobody really knows how others feel or what their biggest struggles are even if we wanted to. As human beings we tend to judge others before we even know who they are or what they have went through in life. For example, we may make fun of another over their weight, but little do we know that that person goes home and cries n throws up because of what we've said or comment on their clothing when maybe they are going through hard times or even when we see someone cry and make fun of them for it; we don't know that maybe one of their close relatives must have recently died. We don't know yet we still judge. This song shows us that we should stop being selfish and open our eyes and discover how others might feel from our rude comments, hateful stares, or even our ignorance. We need to learn to not judge others just because they are different from ourselfs.

  18. The music video and the song were great. It made me think of what people do in order to get what they want or just to make someone else happy. They are willing to go the extra mile and sacrifice their needs for someone special.

  19. The song was so-so. The lyrics, I don't mind. But the voice, it let me get distracted from the true meaning of the lyrics. But don't get offended. Maybe you hate the band Phoenix or Passion Pit or Modest Mouse or Jet or Emiliana Torrini's voices. I wouldn't exactly torch your headphones.
Anyway, just got finished reading the lyrics online and I hopelessly love this song much better. Doesn't everyone have this nasty habit of listening to the beat rather than the words, the concept, the phrases, the expressions? Feels better to isolate it.
In the song, it seems a little like he's asking for forgiveness, look at these lines (not in the exact order in the song)
You made your mind up before you knew me. (DEAD give away)
Take my hand for a minute. (Sounds like Pleading)
We're in it - imagine all the pain that might be forgiven (DEAD give away #2)
What if you told my lies? (Forgiveness for his lies possibly?)
What if I cried with your eyes? (Secret must have been something to make the other person cry)
If you don't get it, then you don't get it (why he said {lies} what he said)
I took a step hoping you might follow. (asking for forgiveness)
Take a chance for a minute. Jump in it. (Asking for trust Again)
Imagine if you asked yourself for a minute: (Try to understand why he did what he did)
I might be totally off with the meaning, but i guess that's just my perspective...This song makes me think of the horrible what ifs i create to torture myself. Everybody has. I don't want to share mine because, duh, I don't feel like welling up with tears. But, think of yours. And how you would feel. And how the other involved people would feel. Yeah, Feeling Like Crap, Table for One!

  20. I really enjoyed the lyrics to this song, my favorite line was "What if I cried with your eyes?" because it really showed emotion. Simply stating that everyone cries, if they admit it or not, everyone goes through some type of struggle. Someone elses problems may seem so small compared to ours, but to them it may be their world. It puts into perspective how people see the world. if you put yourself into someone elses skin and deal with their life, and cry for their problems, when you got back out would you look at YOUR life the same way? I don't think so.

  21. This song makes me realize that although we might think we know what's going on in someone's life, we never really do. We might hear about one small thing that goes wrong in their life and think to ourselves, "wow, that's all they have going on? Things could be much worse." But maybe things are worse, and you just don't hear about it. Also, you shouldn't make assumptions and put people down for something that you think is odd or different about them. Everyone has "odd" things about them, even you. If someone were to make fun of something about you, you'd probably be thinking about how they don't know everything and they're making fun of something small that is actually a much bigger thing. Now put yourself in the other person's shoes. Would you still judge them?

  22. This song was very interesting to hear at first because I've been so used to blunt and more aggressive styles of music that it took me by surprise, and I really enjoyed it! An awesome change of pace for lyrics and sound, both of which sounded pretty cool in the song. I loved the song writing because it really is an eye opener. I believe that if people shared each others feelings more that the world would be a more open-minded place. Most people go about there day without even thinking of others, and if you can feel what someone else is feeling you'll learn so much more about them and maybe even yourself. That's the wonderful thing about music, it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, or what your background is everyone DOES connect with one another through music. You just have to find the right words and melody.

  23. When I first read this post, I was kind of apprehensive. Not because I didn't think it would be good, but because of how it would make me feel. It makes me feel terrible about some things I may have said or done that have hurt people. I'm not always the one who is having a bad day, someone out there is having a worse day than me. I always try to remember that. Sometimes I even think, "That's stupid to be upset about, someone somewhere has it a lot worse." But then it hits me that that's like saying, "You can't be happy because someone somewhere is happier." I don't think I could possibly survive in someone elses shoes, because I did not grow up and adapt to that. It would be a really big struggle. It always amazes me how truly moving songs can be, I love it!(:

  24. A- I LOVE FIVE FOR FIGHTING!!!!
B- I love this song! It's so powerful and true. You can't really know someone, know there secret thoughts desires what they have been threw in their lives and not love them the way that they love themselfs and if the whole world could see that if we could take a step back and put ourselves into other people's shoes into their problems and their hardships if we could really see what it was like for the people around us and have our hearts broken by the secrets that they hide behind closed doors then we would all love each other in the same way that we love ourselves and there would be no Ridicule or torment just a bunch of people who know what it's like to go through the unimaginable and who have gone through it together!
Way to pick my favorite band btw love this post!
